Workshop 1 – Key elements of screening

The first workshop was organised November 20 and 21, 2023 in Bled, Slovenia.

In the first workshop quality indicators that are crucial to monitor a screening programme were discussed and the long-term outcomes of screening (such as incidence and mortality rates) evaluated. We presented the definitions of the indicators, provided examples of how to obtain data and discuss solutions in case indicators cannot be identified in a specific country because of lack of data. We showed examples of the impact of changes of the programme (such as the test characteristics, coverage of the programme or screen ages) on long-term results.
In addition, we organised sessions on barriers and stakeholders with examples of how to overcome barriers and what influence stakeholder can have. In all sessions there was time to exchange experiences between participants. The updated monitoring, evaluation, barrier analysis and stakeholder tools were demonstrated, with the aim that participants can start using the tool after the workshop when they have collected data. After the workshop, the EU-TOPIA-EAST consortium assisted participants by email and webinars when necessary.
