To build capacity for implementation and self-evaluation of screening programmes, we will refine our web-based tool and organise two interactive workshops on the key elements of cancer evaluation. From the beginning, we will invite researchers and policymakers of all middle income Eastern European and Mediterranean countries to participate in the workshops and have now already established contacts in many countries. Finally, results of EU-TOPIA will be presented in a conference on cancer screening evaluation in Europe.
After the implementation studies in the exemplary countries, we will organise (multiple) round table discussions per country to discuss scaling-up the programme to the entire country. For this purpose we will invite in each country representatives of all stakeholders involved in screening (including not only researchers, programme coordinators, policymakers and physicians, but also for example patient organisations and people invited for screening) to share the experiences of the implementation, provide the evidence of the effects of the improved programme and discuss how the implementation can be scaled up to the national level. When the round tables in the exemplary countries have been finished, we aim to extend the round tables to some of the other countries participating in EU-TOPIA-EAST.
